Hey guys,

i've got a problem.

Whenever i start my PC with everything connecten my motherboard lights up for 0,1 second and then does nothing anymore. When i try it again it doesn't even light up at all.

Now the thing is, whenever i disconnect the 8pin CPU cable and get my processor out and boot my pc, my GPU starts spinning and my Motherboard lights up.

I already confirmed my PSU is working properly (by the webshop i bought it). both my motherboard and processor are new.

Now i really dont know what to do.

Things i already tried:

-Remove CMOS

-EVERY cable out and in (multiple times)

-Completly clean CPU

-Different wall outlets

-probably some other basic stuff.

-using different ram slots

FULL BUILD:

Motherboard: MSI Tomahawk B450

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600

SSD: Samsung m.2 960 EVO 500gb

RAM: 2x 8gb Corsair vengeance 3200mhz

GPU: MSI 1060 6gb

PSU: Coolermaster masterwatt lite 500W Full Modulair

I think this is your problem, AMD CPU's are very sensitive with RAM compatibility.

I would try at least a 3000Mhz dual channel kit.

Sorry i put the wrong mhz. It is 3200Mhz.

I used to have 2x 8gb 3200Mhz but gave one to my brother. I also got the new mobo and cpu.

Can this be the problem?

It used to work. As soon as i replaced MOBO + CPU and remove 1 RAM module i got the troubles.

Problem is i dont have old RAM module anymore

Well there is your issue, as i said, one stick instead of dual channel is causing the problem...

The memory clock is not the cause of sensitivity, it is the chips themselves and/or the RAM stick's firmware.

@Joonaatje, what model is the RAM? Not the marketing name, but the actual model (e.g. CMK16GX4M2D2400C14 ver4.21).

You can check for official compatibility on MSI's website: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-TOMAHAWK/#support-mem-14.

Also, I am curious who manufactured the chips on the RAM, since Samsung's B-die (B is the best class of Samsung RAM chips) chips have the best compatibility with Ryzen.

CMW16GX4M2C3200C16  or CMW16GX4M2C3200C16, COR-16GX4M2C32C16 i guess

Thanks, it looks like it is not officially compatible with your board.

As for the actual chips, I'm still looking for the documentation of the card.

If you have access to another DIMM (matters not what the capacity is), can you try updating the firmware (BIOS/UEFI)?

That may potentially improve compatibility (no guarantees, though).

Oh, wow. Your cards have either Samsung B-die or Hynix CJR chips, and it appears that Hynix CJR is almost as good as Samsung B-die in terms of Ryzen compatibility.

Try updating the firmware, it may (again, no guarantees) help.

Otherwise, these two sites may help, in conjunction with MSI's compatibility matrix for your motherboard:

https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/

https://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/f13/die-ultimative-hardwareluxx-samsung-8gb-b-die-liste-alle-hersteller-02-06-19-a-1161530.html

I do not understand german, however I managed to somehow read between the lines on the second link as to your cards (it's a good thing I know how to say "yes" and "no" in german, that literally helped me here).

I'm sorry for being offline for so long.

Depending on the motherboard, there may be a firmware recovery mode, where the motherboard just flashes the file (renamed and placed at the root of the flash drive, in advance) without you doing anything but turning the motherboard on.
