Google Fiber

Trouble Kelp

I know google fiber is Gigabit but how fast will the actual download speeds be for stuff (mostly steam games). With the limits of whatever server is hosting it would probably be more of a bottle neck than the connection right? And what is the limit on steam downloads (if any)? and dose anyone know how good the router that comes with google fiber is? I know google fiber is fast and all but if anyone could give me more info about it (I've already read the website) that would be cool.

1000/8 = 125mb/s on Steam/Origin.

8 mbits = 1 mbyte

Google Fiber isn't available everywhere. Google is an ISP, it's not a router that will give you 128mbytes/s.

You are right. Odds are, you would be limited by Steam's upload speed.

However, at the speed you would probably get (50MB/s+), you could download entire games in a matter of minutes.

I don't believe there are limits on how much you can download though. I may not understand that part of your question.

^ is right.

Capitalization is everything when it comes to bits and bytes.

I know that it's an ISP but it says on the website that it includes a router and I was wondering how good it was, like if it be good enough for game streaming.

Thanks. If you were downloading multiple big files at the same time like a large steam game and a couple gig files at the same time that shouldn't  slow it down to much (unless some how you exceed Gigabit) correct? because most files won't download at the max your connection can handle. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You're right.

Google Fiber is best for downloading multiple large files. Simply because you are the only one who will get 125MB/s speeds as most servers limit how much one user can get.

Ok Thanks for clearing that up for me. What kind of router would be best if you had google fiber and you wanted to do game streaming and stuff like that?

You're welcome.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure whatever Google gives you when you sign up will be adequate.

I have Google fiber, and steam definitely has the fastest servers i have come across, i can pull around 70-80MB/s from steam alone. Still leaves plenty of room to do whatever else i want to do on the internet.

I don't really use the wireless built into their router. I have a business wireless access point that is better than what they gave me.
