My goal was to downsize my build from the massive Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced, into the smallest case I could find without having to buy a new motherboard. Luckily Cooler Master recently released the Q500L which is one of the smallest ATX cases with full size PSU for a decent price. I'm using a

  • Ryzen 5 2600 4ghz @ 1.3750v
  • Zotac RTX 2060
  • Viper 4 3733 CL17 @ 3200 CL14

Complete Parts and Component List

I was able to put in 6 Corsair LL series fans, 4 120mm's and 2 140mm's. I disregarded the Lighting Node Pro included and have all 6 fans running from the LED hub to the JCORSAIR header on the motherboard. This allows syncing of effects with any other RGB components plugged in through the other RGB headers. I also have an RGB fan ring around the scythe fan in the rear. I had to move it back there because the fan clips weren't big enough to fit the fan and RGB ring. There's 2 addressable RGB strips going across the top and bottom as well.

I have a 1tb NVME drive for all of my games and boot drive, and 2 SATA SSDs for backups and archival storage.

For everything I have crammed in a case this small I'd say the cable management was fairly well done. That can also be attributed to not using the Lighting Node Pro, as I would've had to plug in another SATA cable to the PSU.

My next goal is to get an RMx PSU to get custom sleeved cables, as with this case I don't have much room for cable extensions and I haven't been able to find any custom sleeved cables for the CXM series.

Thanks for checking out my build, feel free to criticize me for dumb choices or anything ✌️

only the fans have rgb, nothing else

I have 7 RGB fans with the RGB ring included and 2 RGB strips. The motherboard also has RGB but is drowned out by the Corsair fans. Getting RGB RAM next time I upgrade my girlfriend's computer and she'll get the red sticks.

After moving from the HAF 932 ADV to the Q500L, upgraded to RTX 2060 from the RX 580, got an ML120 & ML140 that I soon replaced with all LL fans.

Upgraded stock cooler to the Mugen 5 rev b.

  • Stock cooler and clock speeds prime95 temps after 20 minutes we're 82C
  • Mugen 5 rev b stock clock speeds prime95 after an hour only 64C

  • Stock cooler 4ghz @ 1.375v over 90C before crash
  • Mugen 5 rev b 4ghz @ 1.3625v 82C after an hour, no crash.

Amazing job! Just out of curiousity, how long did it take to get all your RGB fan cables all neat and organised? I myself have 4 Corsair SP120 RGB fans and it took me hours to get those pesky cables all neat into the fan hub. :D

Maybe an hour or so. I turned on some music, took off both side panels, and started trying to get the cables routed.

Thankfully the Q500L has around 30cm of routing space between the motherboard tray and side panel, nice storage mounting trays for the SSDs and LED hub, and a lot of cable tie down locations. It's nowhere near a neat as some cable management on the bigger cases but everything lays down tight and the side panel doesn't bow out or even contact anything.
