Computer is running Windows 10. My friend has a flash drive with a whole lot of saved files from school. She plugged it in a few days ago and most of the files are coming up as unreadable. She tried using the Windows repair thing, but it's coming back saying that , "There was problem repairing this drive." From what I am reading on the internet, without paying for or using a sketchy recovery software, the drive and the files are dead, but I'm hoping not. She tried running some kind of command prompt thing, and windows cam back and said "Unrecoverable error in folder \.Trashes" It then asked if she wanted to convert folder to file. I have no clue where to go from here. Any help is appreciated.

Plug in the drive, let's say it shows up as drive letter E:/ in the PC

Open CMD as admin, and run the following command:

chkdsk E: /f /r

If the information is critical and you need the info recovered, go to your local computer shop as they may have the proper software to do so.

Ah ok, thanks
