Hello

Could you guys recommend an upgrade path for me? My budget is about $500.

My pc components are as follows:

CPU: Ryzen 1500x with stock air cooler

GPU: GTX1050ti 4gb

Ram: Corsair 8gb 2400Mhz

SDD: samsung 240gb

HDD: some old 1tb from my garage

Monitor: Dell U2718q 4k

PSU: EVGA 500W

Initial thought was getting vega 64, but seems my psu not powerful enough. what PSU do you recommend?

If not vega, what nvidia cards do you recommend?

I'd appreciate your prompt response!! :)

I for one have been using Asus GPUs for all my life and i cant really complain. Truthfully you pay a bit more than you would on other brands but its usually top of the line stuff.

The only problem i experienced with an Asus was with my Asus strix 1060 6 gb. When i moved to a new house and plugged the computer in in it worked for a while but after plugging in other stuff the phone chargers and so on i noticed my monitor would turn off and then turn on again and at some point the whole pc went off. When i turned it back on all the fans in the case including the fans on the GPU would go full speed and i wouldnt get any sort of display from the GPU although as i said the fans and the lights on it were functioning still. I sent it to repairs and after 2 weeks they told me they will pay me back for it. In the meantime though i found out the power plug i put my pc into was mounted the wrong way (fucking electricians am i right) and thats what probably what caused my GPU to do that. Im assuming you would think that the GPU would have some sort of protection maybe? Im not sure but still after that i trust Asus.

To be honest, the 1500x probably doesn't want any more than 1070 level performance. I wouldn't go for vega 64 if I were you. Vega 56 is the best option for you right now.

Hey MeatFeastMan thanks for your reply, I get that vega 64 is probably overkill given my current cpu, but the reason why I am considering it is that it is currently on sale where I stay (about $10 more expensive than vega 56!)... :)

make sure you use @MeatFeastMan so that it turns orange and he gets a notification.

Vega 64 isn't necessarily a bad choice, but saving money on a Vega 56 isn't a bad move. What's your performance target? The V64 might have more horsepower than you can take advantage of. Also, what model is on sale for you?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

In that case get the Vega 64.

you can upgrade later this year your cpu to either a ryzen 2000 series (which will come down in price once ryzen 3000 is released Q3 of this year) or a newer ryzen 3000

Thanks guys. I don't really have a target performance, but when I first built my pc I probably wasn't wise taking gtx1050ti as new games became too demanding for it. So in this upgrade I want a bit more future proof. I'm a casual gamer, my monitor doesnt have gsync/freesync, just 4k, I play ps4 pro now and then (I prefer visual fidelity over frame rate)- hopefully wanting to play some games at 4k 30fps ish, or 2k 60fps +, if that is not asking too much for this budget :)

unless you can see the future, good luck with that. Present proof is usually more attainable.

The Vega 64 is good for 4k medium details, so it's money well spent if that's what you're going for.

@fasauceome What PSU do you recommend for vega 64? I heard its very power hungry

Well, undervolting is a must for Vega, which makes it far more reasonable temperature and power wise, and it's very easy to do. However, you want a nice high quality PSU for your rig, so I'd suggest the seasonic focus plus gold or maybe the Bitfenix Whisper. 550 watts will do the job and then some, but I don't know about your pricing so can't recommend a specific unit, instead check out our PSU tier list and get a unit from A tier or higher.
