My laptop has a i7 7700hq and a GTX 1050 TI . I am using Cooler Master RG-ICF-CWRP2-GP thermal paste and I am getting 84 C for gpu (It throttles at that and decrease performance) & 93 C for cpu under load.

My question is if i use Artic Silver 5 High Density thermal paste, will it reduce my temperature. I am sorry for this noob question. The Cooler Master thermal paste i am using is around 6 years old. Just wanted to make sure before i placed the order.

Thank you for reading and helping me :)

AS5 is decent, but not near the best anymore. Get something like MX4, NH-T1, GC Extreme, or Kryonaut for the absolute best performance north of Liquid Metal. Laptops are horrible all around for cooling so you may gain a little bit, but likely not much since they really cant effectively move the heat very well.

So these temprature are normal for laptops. I mean mine is throttling everytime i play a game. I spent 150 PKR usd for a laptop i expect it to give me performance ☹️

Not answering the question but have you tried undervolting? It will decrease the temperatures by a huge amount on the cpu and gpu.

Will it decreases less performance then it would with thermal throttling ?

I repasted my sager NP8372 which has a 7820hk and GTX 1070 with kryonaut and dropped about 11c on the cpu. Undervolting will also help temps A LOT.

I wouldnt reccomend Artic silver 5 in a laptop because it is slightly capacitive. You need a totally non conductive paste in a laptop because youre applying the paste directly to the cpu and gpu dies.

Undervolting doesnt decrease preformance at all. It only decrease the voltage going into the cpu/gpu. You will get the same performance if not better no matter the situation as long as the under volt is stable.

DAMN BOI, You just increased my laptop performance. Thank you so much. I changed the voltage frequency curve and now temps are lower and fps increased. I will post pics when i have the time. :)

That's a LOT of money for a 7700HQ and a 1050Ti.  You could have bought several other laptops for that, and have enough left for a nice car.

I assume you meant 1500 USD, or 1.5K

I'm hoping he meant 150 USD because 1500 and he could've gotten better than a 1050ti..

AS5 is decent...

Not really, it's a capacitive thermal paste that takes entirely too long to cure and under-performs.

That's not true at all, if you're not dealing with an aluminum cooling system a liquid metal such as Conductonaut is the best thermal compound you can use and that, as the name suggests, is highly conductive. You just need to know how to work with the paste and properly apply it.

The problem is that AS5 isn't a 'decent' paste.

It is, in fact, a bad one since it displays unacceptable problems compared to modern thermal compounds.
