I have an i7 3820 3.6-3.9GHz

with a 780 ti

i was thinking if i should overclock it to 4.2ghz or more (whatever i can manage)

will it help in any way for gaming

nd is my gpu in anyway bottlenecked by the cpu, although i doubt it

my cpu cooler is a corsair H80 which is just average for coolling i guess

There won't be any bottleneck ;) And yes, it will marginally improve performance. You could probably expect frame rate increases within the single digits.

The H80 will be adequate.
