1070 future-proof?

Peiguy

I'm planning to buy a used 1070 off eBay as they're pretty cheap now but I'm wondering how the card will hold up over the next few years, will it be sufficient for 1080, future AAA titles, or should I wait to see how Navi turns out? Any comments are greatly appreciated

I use a GTX 1070 for 1080p gaming on a TV.  It'll play most games at highest/ultra settings at 60 fps (vsync on) without a problem.  FFXV still runs like hot garbage.

Would a 1070 Ti be even more futureproof for around $300, or should I just consider a different GPU at that price point?

wasnt the 1070ti just marginally better than 1070?

but you could get the new gtx1660ti for~$280

What kind of AMD CPU would I need to not bottleneck or have a small bottleneck at 1080p?

Nothing is future proof. That's why it's the future.

Just buy what you think the best performance and best value is for your money right now. There's nothing wrong with either 1070 or 1070 Ti in that regard, except maybe their competition like GTX 1660 Ti (similar to 1070), RTX 2060 (faster than 1070 Ti), and perhaps Vega 56 (still don't have a good feel for how much you can tweak that card).

AFAIK an overclocked 2060 can get very close to a stock 1080.

The true comparable  GPU to the 1080 is the 2070.

As the 2070 a bit faster.

Every comparison on stock!

A 2060 is pretty much a 1070ti. The 2060 is like 5 FPS faster in some 100fps games.

+/-10 fps in such high number (100+fps) means a tie

If I want to max everything at 1080p 60hz, I would say RTX2060 can hold up quite well for 5yrs , then hope 1440p will become mainstream?

Absolutely, I'm just pointing out that 2060 and 2070 aren't really that far apart to begin with.

imo all cards beyond xx70 are not worth it for the slight perf increase

gtx1070/ti 1080 are so close & same with rtx2060~2080

Look for new VEGA Cards as well. They are pretty awesome as well.
