Shorted motherboard

I have a 3.5 year old Asus laptop that has had some minor issues. On Saturday, it stopped starting. I took it to the Geek Squad after I couldn’t even get it to boot into the Bios. They said It was a fried motherboard. I am debating if it would be worth while to repair it (I am a college student and don't want to spend money if it isn’t necessary). If it is a goner does anyone have recommendations for good gaming laptops that are under $1000?

I would take any info from geeksquad with a grain of salt. There was one of those news reporter segments where they check out supposed scammers. They took in a healthy PC with just an unplugged HDD and got ripped off hundreds of dollars in some cases. I'm sure they've gotten better, but still, grain of salt.

 

Check out google or duckduckgo for local repair shops. They're generally much more honest as they're not backed by Best Buy.

Daniel Z it had an I5 6 or 7 generation and a gtx 790. With a 120g ssd and a 1 terabyte hdd.

 

Fluxdeity I tried to get it fixed but everyone said it was gone So I replaced it.
