Scanner not working

So I'm trying to get my grandma's old computer running again, but the scanner isn't working. I just installed it, but it doesn't do anything. It's an EPSON Perfection 4490 Photo, and the OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.

Go to device manager and see if it is recognized there. If so, right click>update drivers

Nope. When I plug it in there's a notification that a USB device attatched to the system has malfuctioned (or something like that).

Does it give an error code or anything like that?

That's bad. I have flip camera & it gives this message to all ports. So I think it's damaged. Maybe you have the same situation.

I hope not. It doesn't do anything when I turn it on either. Power on self tests or anything. :(

Did you download and install the driver FIRST before plugging in the USB?
