So I got some good advice in the server forum for changes to my server hardware picks, but before I make the purchase I want to confirm I know how to make sure the memory I have picked is compatible.

Motherboard: https://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon/C600/X9DRi-F.cfm

CPU: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/75281/intel-xeon-processor-e5-2695-v2-30m-cache-2-40-ghz.html

The memory I am looking at is: https://www.serversupply.com/products/part_search/partdetailed.asp?pid=216485

It is DDR3-1600, ECC, 240pin LRDIMM. These all fit the parameters of the CPU and motherboard...but the compatibility listed for the memory does not include what I intend to get. Am I skipping something that makes this incompatible or am I just doubting my growing hardware knowledge too much?

It is just not on the QVL but will work just fine.

Yes, the QVL list just means they tested the motherboard with that memory, but it does not mean other RAM won't work. As long as it meets the motherboard spec, it should work fine.

QVL list is useful if you want to run OC memory, as in consumer boards like AM4, they often list the speed they were tested at to work. But even then, actual performance varies by RAM and CPU...
