Will overvolting a 780 (EVGA stock cooler) by 38mv decrease the lifespan? (if so by how much?) 

 

Or is overclocking without overvolting a better option. 

 

just a reminder EVGA warranty still works if you overvolt.

Well the card should have a voltage lock in the BIOS and won't let you put a dangerous amount of volts into it.

It shouldn't change the lifespan at all, nvidia "recommends" not going over 1.2 v, which is why that voltage lock is there. Unless you start pushing 1.25 v it shouldnt hurt anything (with modded bios)
