best current gpu to match with a i5 3570k.

fatboynate2
Go to solution Solved by MS-DOS Guy,

Get a used GTX 980 TI. There around the budget you mentioned and are basically GTX 1070s with slightly lower vram. If you think it will bottleneck your processor, just overclock it assuming you have a Z-Series motherboard. A while back, I had a i5 2500k rig that did bottleneck my 980 ti ( this rig was a while back, I had to sell it so I could afford a server I wanted to build ) but overclocking fixed the problem drastically. Another good option would be a GTX 1070 but there usually a tad more expensive. But since the RTX line-up came in recently, all the previously expensive cards have dropped in value.

so im back to using my 3570k on a asus z77 sabertooth after my new build was ruined by a stupid family members drink. but im stuck with my ancient gtx 970. its a salvaged card from either a regular dell or alienware prebuild.

the main games i play are eso, sometimes wow, fallout 76 and 4. and a tonne of 4k youtube which on the tv app its fine but chugs right now even at 1440p on the 970.

the only screen i have right now is my 49" 4k hdr tv which if i set a custom resolution i can get to 85hz but i lose all hdr functionality. so i would like to be able to run these things at 4k even at mediums or 1440p maxed out. eso can hit between 49-60 fps @1440p already while the others all choke.

i have around £210 available on friday im open to buying a newer cpu and mobo and then getting the ram in 2 weeks after. or buying a combo with ram with a basic bitch pentium then buying something better later. k cpus arent for me as overclocking isnt something i intend to do after my previous experiance, performance is fine for gaming with cpus without oc's these days.

im open to buying from amazon uk, ebay uk and cex.

only other pc i have is terrible fx 4100 pared with a gtx 650 that came with it when i was given it.

I would have to disagree. A 1660Ti or Vega 56 is around 10 percent faster, and they use less power, will age better, and are already significantly better in newer games. So for around 30 pounds more, you get better performance, lower power draw, and a warranty.

The cheapest ones are only 250. Userbenchmark is decent, but never nearly as good as real world benchmarks. In real world games, the 1660Ti is better.

power draw isnt an issue as i have a very much overkill 1000w psu. and im incredibly bad when it comes to saving energy so i dont even bother trying anymore.

a 1660ti is a waste of money for me as i will getting a 2070 in a couple months when i actually have money saved for a new pc, i was gunna take pauls advice from pauls hardware and get a 7 series i5 or i7 and pair it with a basic bitch motherboard and reuse the same psu and such i have right now my system right now is 3 1tb samsung evos and i still have the m.2 drive that i didnt get to use in my ruined ryzen build kinda a blessing it arrived 3 days late i guess

edit: forgot to mention i got a ga windforce super clocked gtx 980ti for 210 including the original recipt and box ect had to get a family member to front the cash till friday from gumtree also :P

So a 1660Ti is a waste of money but the 980Ti isn’t? If you were going to get a 2070 soon, I wouldn’t recommend getting a new card at all.

well the 980ti isnt beacuse a 1660ti is another 50-60 pounds more for unoticable performance gain.  this card is for a i5 3570k on a z77 sabertooth where as the 2070 will going in  much more apropriate build. and with that in mind i dont want to waste 50-60 pounds on a newer card when that can go towards better hardware in a new build with a much more recent card.

edit: forgot to remind you, that the 970 is a dell/alienware oem card which turned out to be worse than a reference card. the 980ti will be much nicer in this thing and keep it worth using beside my future build as living room pc rather than everything pc.

Woah, hold on there. A Kaby Lake CPU? Those are quite overpriced, I mean hell, a Kaby Lake i7 is around $400.00  on amazon compared to the new 8700k which goes for even cheaper. If you want affordable raw power get a Ryzen CPU. Fuck, get the top of the line Ryzen and I can bet you it will  even outperform the 8700k in certain instances.

If you can find any ones that are $250.00 that is then kindly let me know. Otherwise, I don't know of any at all. Also, Userbenchmark isn't just decent. First off, it DOES show game FPS tests. And also, it shows a wide variety of benchmarking. It shows manufacturing processes to core clock speeds, mem clock speeds, # of shader units, cuda cores. All the fancy credentials, and then ultimately shows performance.

If userbenchmark wasn't accurate, then Linus Tech Tips wouldn't have used it once in one of his videos I remember watching.

i use userbenchmark every time i buy something new for a pc.  but i got a gtx 980ti windforce super clocked version from gigabyte, found it on gumtree guys bringing it in a couple hours after he gets changed from work. for 210 gbp thats cheaper than any of the exact same ones on ebay. gpus and cpus are always cheaper in usd than they are in gbp infact europe as a whole region gets a big fat dildo in the ass when it comes to pc hardware pricing, 250 usd is 192.37 gbp roughly so if i could get a gtx 980ti for 250usd id be really happy lol,

im not looking for anything stupidly ott i want a pc that can hit 60fps in the original games i mentioned at 4k or 1440p, i dont need anything other than my mmos and 4k youtube to be smooth. if later on i want to upgrade the cpu then thats always an option these days becuase even a i3 8300 bests my 3570k while both at stock while having newer spec ram, and support for m.2 nvme ect.

see this is what really pisses me off, that a gtx 980ti is cheaper for you than 250usd when a gtx 980ti for me is still around or over 210 gbp which is 272.91 usd roughly

so ebay.com for you is a great deal ebay.com and .co.uk for me are both totally overpriced .com due to shipping and .co.uk due to outragious eu region pricing.

I have a 3570k @4.4ghz and recently upgraded from a 970 to 1070. It was a perfectly good upgrade but the 970 is still a very good card.

The 3570k may bottleneck depending on its clock speed, the game being played, the in game settings and the resolution. Some games have no bottleneck, whilst others with optimised settings may have a slight 5/10% bottleneck though I don't tend to bottleneck because I play at QHD resolution.

Feel free to PM for further questions.
