It's not such a big deal, but for whatever reason there is virtually no sound when I plug them into my motherboard. I have a G1 Sniper 3, this is the chip but since I know nothing about audio I have no idea if it's good or not Creative CA0132. My speakers seem to run just fine off the onboard and my phone seems to drive the M50's just fine. I have a cheap sound card that has a stupidly powerful amp, so it's not such a big deal. But I am curious as to whether this is normal or not

Do other devices play sound?

Of course it's not normal. The speakers probably work fine because they don't need to be driven by the onboard, by the headphones need juice.

First thing I'll suggest is making sure you've got the latest drivers for your mobo

Yeah, yeah, sound on everything is all good. Just quiet with the M50's

I thought M50's didn't really need much to drive them, which is why I'm not surprised my phone does it well. Like I said, I have a sound card with a powerful amp so it's not such a big deal

Are they quiet or they don't make any sound?

It is probably just the chip on the motherboard.

I laugh a little from your member title and profile pic... every time I see it.

Anyway, OP, if you have installed your drivers, and tested with other headphones and still have the problem, you might have some broken stuff.

I agree that is really strange.  Your headphones should work extremely well with your onboard sound considering they are only 38 ohms.  When using the onboard sound, have you tried both the rear and front audio jacks?

My PC specifications are in my profile.

Only rear, I imagine the front would only be worse... Don't even know of front is plugged in

If there is something wrong with the rear jack, the front panel jack might solve your issue.  You may or may not notice some interference due to the signal traveling past many other internal components.

How quiet is quiet? You might be facing the same problem I had with my HD558s with quiet sound on m,y motherboard for, my liking.

But if it's quiet to the levels that doesn't seem normal, then you've got issues. ATH-M50s are still very drive-able even by my motherboard, so I'm not sure what's going on!
