Alright, I understand this hardware is stupid out of date, but keeping it on the cheap of things is optimal (and ddr4 prices are still pretty stupid).

I stumbled on a video a few days ago showing off the Xeon E5 2660v1 and its around $60-$70 on Ebay. My brother is in desperate need of an upgrade from his Pentium processor, so I put two and two together and thought this was a great idea. One thing I'm running into is what motherboard supports this processor? I know its the LGA 2011 socket, but I've see that it may need to be a server board, but some people also said it shouldn't, and I've seen shitty off brand motherboards on Ebay that say they work, but that's off brand so why should I trust it?

Then a secondary question- if it supports ecc memory does it strictly need ecc?

Thanks to any responses!

most regular X79 boards will accept it just fine, same with the off-brand huanan boards. ECC is not needed.
