Hi guys,

I'm planning on building a PC mainly to play at least the current games at 1080p on a 144hz monitor at decent graphic settings, I prefer to have stable performance over quality though (I play FPS often). Im not looking for these components to last more than a year or two so as long as i can play the current games at the previously stated requirements i'll be happy.

I currently have 3 pieces:

Mother board: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Maximus-VIII-Hero-Motherboard/dp/B0126R4F8W

Ram: https://www.komplett.ie/hyperx-predator-16gb-pc4-24000-dimm/20798633/product

Power Supply: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-RM850i-Fully-Modular-Supply/dp/B00YPQNES0/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=rm850i&qid=1557259002&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I still need to buy a case, GPU,  CPU,  SSD(500gb min) and maybe a cooler or an HDD if you guys think it will be necessary. I'll be buying this in about two weeks time and i have a budget of 700-800€ (currently living in Ireland).

This is an SSD i had in mind buying, but it's if you guys think its a necessary sacrifice for the pc to meet the requirements i want ill consider buying it later on:

Thanks!

I was initially confused as to why you'd want to build now with an upgrade in mind so near.

GPU prices in Ireland are CRAZY high...

I found a lower end avg on irish ebay for the RX 580 8GB. It's not going to hit this for newer AAA titles, but for a build right now that would certainly work at 144hz in esports titles, you could do something like this:

The intel competition may add an edge, but since the used market isn't offering anything in this price range, you'll have to weigh the options yourself. An R5 1600 is fine for now, and could support a hefty GPU upgrade in the future. The board will support a CPU upgrade to anything in the first and second gen Ryzen lineup in the future (with possibility on certain 3rd gen CPUs. We just don't know currently, but I wouldn't hold out on that hope with the Pro 4.)

I went in on a good PSU so that you can upgrade future parts without the worry there. (The PSU market is pretty high too. Ouch.)

For what the RTX 2060, RX 2070, Vega 56 and Vega 64 cost even used right now, I just don't view that as worth it. Even that RX 580 used market is a tad high, but I wouldn't view that spending as such a loss as 500+ euros right now...

The new prices on the 1660 are similarly high, but not so high it makes me upset. So really maybe there is a cost to performance ratio to look at there. I still think in terms of how small a step up you're looking at, a cheap used RX 580 is the way to go.

the problem with that build is that i would have to get rid of the psu and mother board i already have which seems like a waste atm i'll re link u the pieces i already have i think i have to go with the intel alternative if i could actually find a i7 6700k for 150 i could fit it with a 1660ti and the ssd and cooler i got recomended further up

Well the RAM and PSU are transferable, just not the mobo.

So really, either grab a 6th gen unlocked, and the list is still applicable, but you'll need a CPU cooler or go for an AMD build and lose out on just the mobo.

Here's a few ebay listings that apply to your mobo:

In terms of pricing, the i5-7600k appears to have the best used deals out there. The i7-6700k following suit. in terms of performance, that i5 is 5-10% performance increase over the r5 1600, and the i7-6700k is another 10% over that. That said if you can front for it, I'd grab the 6700k.

Here's what that might look like. We are probably talking about a 25% increase in performance or so from the previous build listed.

Honestly for Irish pricing, you could certainly be doing worse. This is a pretty nice PC!

Yesh this is more or less the build i was thinking ill see if i can get a good deal on a 6700k and ill get s 1660ti too, thanks for the help!

Yeah, for me based on current pricing it fell to the RX 580 8GB and the 1660Ti. I think in price to performance, they are still offering the best bang for the buck. The higher end cards are crazy out there. It didn't seem like the used market even changed prices much.

See the last 3 links above for 6700k's in the listed pricing range. (give or take 15-20 euros I guess for shipping.)
