So I am new to building.... very new...

and I made one that I thought would be just good enough!

Specs:

mobo: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 7

cpu: i5 7600k

gpu: Vega 64 8gb

ram: 16gb vengeance (2x8gb)

psu: rosewill 750w 80+ gold

(if anything else might be relevant let me know)

but my my computer will not start!

I have thermotake RGB fans that come on, but my gpu isn’t putting out an output and although the lights turn on and fans spin for a good 4-6 seconds, it turns off and reboots soon after.

I’ve watched a ton of videos and am trying my best to troubleshoot, but need some tips. Would appreciate any insight-

A Z170 board needs a bios update to run a 7000 series CPU.

Bios update was already done by the previous owner- or at least that’s what I was told. Completely new at this, but do you know how I would go about checking?

Asking because to my knowledge I would have to be able to fully boot the pc without it looping in order to update it- which I obviously can’t do right now.

Unless I can run without a processor or something?

Sadly you'd need a 6000 series CPU to get it running. Very few boards support BIOS update without a CPU.

Only way you can check is with a 6000 series CPU. It need the CPU to boot to the bios. You could take it to a local shop and see if they can check and update the board for you.
