Power Cables (GPU)

Go to solution Solved by Fasauceome,

It depends on the PSU but this is usually perfectly fine, I do this with my own Xp but I also have a nice PSU.

Hey guys,

Quick question:

From my PSU I have the cable running from the actual supply unit to my GPU. I Currently have a GTX 1070 and it only uses one 8pin cable. I am upgrading to  a Titan Xp and it uses an 8 + 6 pin connection.

My question is this: on that cable already running to my GPU there is a second set of 6+2pins dangling there, do I use this to connect the GPU or do I need to run a whole new cable.

I think I can just use that connector but I am not 100% sure so I thought I would ask.

Cheers!

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

OK I figured it would be fine, that's what it's designed for. I'll take a look in the PSU manual to see if there's anything mentioned about max wattage per socket.

Cheers.

JayzTwoCents did some experimenting a while back and found overclocking was slightly more stable with 2 separate lines, but for regular people one line with the daisy chain is fine

8pin+6pin should be fine off the one cable.

If you're using a modular PSU with a high powered graphics card (2x8pin) it is usually recommended to use two separate cables.

Which PSU?

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450
