Raspberry Pi?

Hey guys, so I’m very new to the idea of a raspberry pi. I was thinking of getting one to run Minecraft because I guess they can do that (???)  Plus, I thought it might be fun to play with. But as I’m very new to the idea- could you guys kinda explain raspberry pi to me?

I got a ps5 and a pc pretty ballin

There isn't much to explain, it's a small ARM based computer. You can do anything you like with it provided you have the software for it and speed isn't a concern.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

In Layman's terms, it is just a small computer. They are mainly used for programming small devices. I know I saw this one article that this one app used a linux distro to intercept signals from cell phones to inform a college about the busyness of certain areas of the building so students know when a good time to leave so they aren't late to their class. @star_pilot475

It can probably run minecraft, but you won't be having a great time...

It's usually mostly used for small IoT devices. I for example have one hooked up to my speakers and it's runnning RaSpotify, which allows me to control the speakers via Spotify Connect. Another one is used to turn my lights on and off and anotherone is running my smart mirror.

The possibilities are endless really

75% of what I say is sarcastic

So is the rest probably

They are a ton of fun if you are interested in any of the various ways you can configure a pi or even just for experimenting around. You do have to keep the specs in mind, as it won't be a 30 dollar piece of hardware that runs as well as a desktop would.

Just thought it might be a neat and fun thing to play with and for 30 bucks it isn’t too expensive either. thanks everybody

I do have an Arduino that was gifted to me. Is there much of a difference?

Completely different. A raspberry has an mobile ARM soc and runs (by default) Linux. An Adruino doesn't have neither of these points as it is a much weaker board

An Arduino is a programmable microcontroller on a development board, and so it's use is for electronics projects and control/automation.

A Raspberry Pi is a "full-fledged" computer that runs Linux, and can be used like a normal desktop PC (obviously, it's not a high performance tool), but can also be used to interface with other electronic systems using the GPIO pins (General Purpose Input/Output) to allow for more embedded solutions and electronics projects.

Have a look through the official Raspberry Pi forums for an idea of what can be done with one :)

TL;DR You can't use an Arduino as a computer, it's a microcontroller development board.

I will only ever answer to the best of my ability - there is absolutely no promises that I will be correct. Or helpful. At all.

As others have already said, if you wish to get a Raspberry Pi for MineCraft, you'll be sore disappointed.

Otherwise, you could use it for all sorts of fun experiments (though you could also use a Banana Pi, a Pine64, etc., there's even an Intel Atom x5-based SBC if you wish).
