Again, in case you delete the other post, the i3 is given the advantage by 400 points on Passmark; which is an average of OC'd and stock benchmarks. IMO, it gives "more accurate" results. Keep in mind some benchmarks favor one manufacturer over the other. Also check the Performance/$ chart to get you in the right direction.

But how does it feel in real world?

But how does it feel in real world?

That is the question isn't it? All we can truly rely on is benchmarks at the moment. The best way is to find benchmarks testing the programs you use. I don't know if a 400 point difference is noticeable in real-world applications.

Thanks, looking for some other opinions.

If you currently have a Phenom II x4 965, keep it.

If you want to buy a new 965 or a new i3 4130 stop.

The i3 4130, while great cannot complete to a FX 6300. The is also FX 6300 is 10 bucks cheaper. if you want to buy a new CPU around the $120 budget, this is the one to go.

What about AMD Athlon™ II X4 740 3.2GHz?

It's slightly lower than the 750K. If you're looking for a budget system that's well rounded and can play some games, look at the A10 or A8 offerings from AMD.  Most people on hear will suggest the 750K(or Intel "equivalent") and a dedicated GPU, but that's all pending that the system will be used mainly for gaming. If you want speed in everyday tasks and the ability to play a few games. Go APU with fast RAM and an SSD. The SSD will turn your CPU from feeling slow to feeling high end. The fast RAM will allow you to casually game on occasion.

Well basing your conclusion on multithreading performance isn't relevant. The i3 has like 50% more single core performance so it's a better choice unless you really need the onboard GPU from that APU.

Relevance is subjective on a per user basis. Unless specified by the OP, I use Passmark to compare CPUs and GPUs, and I disclosed in my post that I was referencing Passmark for my conclusion. If that's a bad site, tell me where I can find better info. When you say "like 50%", are you referencing a particular source, or are you pulling that number from your ass? Honestly, I don't know. Teach me, so I can better serve the forum.

Passmark isn't considered as a proper source. Come with a proper benchmark. Your 50% difference evidence can be found here: http://anandtech.com/bench/CPU/344

Note: there werent any i3 haswells only Ivybridge & Sandy's, a Haswell i3 is at 1.45 so thats 45% faster there
