Slow Older HDD?

Go to solution Solved by SPAS-ID,

I would recommend to just simply to get a new PC altogether. If that's not an option i would recommend using older version of chrome or use Firefox, since latest version of Chrome seems to heavy for your computer.

Ah yes, the m420. That was my first "gaming PC" back in the days of Addicting Games, Miniclip and Battlefield Heroes. I remember buying a GT710 for it and thinking I was so cool lol. Still a great PC if you're not expecting it to do much though, and it has plenty of upgrade potential! An Athlon X4 will go in there just fine.

Is it stock? Is the CPU still the Athlon X2?? It's likely the processor/ram holding you back. An SSD upgrade wouldn't hurt for load times, you can get a reputable 120GB for $20-30 and 240GB for $30-40 (Canadian prices).

You'll likely want to upgrade your RAM if you have 4GB or less though, if you have more than 2-3tabs open at a time 8GB is recommended for loading up 3+ tabs of modern websites on Chrome with AdBlockPlus and whatever other extensions you run

It really depends what this person is using the PC for. If it's just for general web browsing and watching youtube, a simple CPU, RAM and SSD upgrade would be half the cost of upgrading to a new system. SSD can be brought to the new system if they ever choose to upgrade down the line.

stock veriton m420.

How much ram?

How good are you with Tech, would you be comfortable doing a CPU swap? It's like lego that you can't touch the bottom of.

It's $15 USD for an upgrade to a quad core (double CPU preformance) and you should really consider upgrading the ram if it's still at the stock 3GB. 4x2GB DDR2 can be found for $20 on your Facebook marketplace if you put out an ISO.
