Why dont you just get a 4670 or a 4570 or if you really want an "s" skew, a 4570s.

It just seemed weird to me that in comparison to the i5-4670 non s they both turbo to 3.8 ghz yet the s version has a lower TDP so would it not be superior to the non-s 4670?

No. It wouldn't be superior and you would not be able to overclock it at all.

Not really... you can downvolt any cpu and it is as efficient as it is possible. And the extra 15 cents you will save every month by buying S are not really worth it.

Base clock is 3.1 ghz, but turbo is at perfect 3.8ghz ... not bad actually.

Oh i see, S means lower base clock. Meh. Even with "premium" price 4670k is better. Downvolt and overclock.

Miniscule power bill difference. You save 100 times more if you have power saving bulbs or switch lights off.

I suppose you could do that.  It's my first time trying to overclock, but the 4770k I have right now doesn't seem to want to overclock at all.  I'm still testing to stabilize my 4.4ghz; I've had to set the vcore to 1.31, nothing under has been able to pass stress testing yet.  I blame my luck, this sort of thing doesn't surprise me at all. ಠ_ಠ

Here is a comparison between the 4570 and the 4570s.  According to this site, the s version would be 23% more efficient for what looks to be an unnoticeable performance margin.  I don't know if that is the case in real situations though, but it makes me wonder why Intel even releases the non-s versions in the first place.
