When I play Fortnite my game completely crashes and takes me back to desktop after a while of playing like 15-20 mins. I recently switched my motherboard and cpu before I had a intel i5 and a different motherboard and my specs right now for my pc are intel i7 9700 k , zotac gaming rtx 2060 gpu, motherboard is Asus rog strix z390. I don’t know what could be the problem. Don’t know where to trouble shoot either

Did you reinstall windows? There's a potential driver conflict.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

You may want to do that then. Also, be sure to quote people so they see your responses.

So uninstall windows 10 then reinstall it?

More or less yes, but you can basically do those both at the same time with a windows install tool. Make sure to save all your files separately because you have to wipe the drive clean.

No need to repeat a topic here. Pretty sure that's a no-no.

So now your game is crashing even while not streaming? I looked into Fortnite crashing while streaming and found a common fix that may or may not fix your issue. Try turning off NVidia Shadowplay and/or disabling the overlay in the NVidia control panel. Try this common fix before reinstalling Windows as @fasauceome recommended. It's easier to rule this fast fix out first. Reinstalling Windows is a great troubleshooting step but not something I would try first. That's just me though.

@fasauceome Do you by chance think resetting or updating his BIOS would do the trick?

Not really, this isn't a symptom of a bad bios, and fresh out of the box, it's doubtful that it's the cause. Software issues often manifest this way, although if there was a clock speed issue then it's worth checking.

Could it be because my cpu temp is high ?

Actually yes, I would have assumed you had a suitable cooler before dropping a few hundred on an 8 core Intel CPU and a motherboard to go with it, what's your peak temp and what's your cooler?

It’s a decent cooler the temp peaks at 115 and when I’m streaming 125 but I heard the i7 that’s the usualtemp

Fahrenheit?

I don't know what cooler "decent cooler" is

Ok the 212 is enough, so we can rule out thermal throttling. As for CPU usage in games, what does it say?

Oh wow dude, there's your issue right there. I forgot to ask you if you monitor your temps and usages while gaming. Seems you may need to reseat your GPU/CPU. You're suppose to be in the 60's and 70's temp wise for your GPU. I wouldn't think 125 F is normal for that CPU. Check to see if the fans are even spinning on your GPU. Shine a flashlight up under it while gaming.

Oh 125 F is like 53 C, your CPU is fine then. Same with your GPU. Temp wise anyway. Did you try disabling NVidia Shadowplay and disabling the overlay in the NVidia control panel yet? Ya' gotta rule it out first imo because it is a common fix to your exact issue.

Not shadows, NVidia Shadowplay. It's software that NVidia GPU users use to record gameplay. It may be conflicting with your streaming software. You disable it in your NVidia GeForce Experience. A lot of Fortnite gamers have said it fixes this exact issue.

These are just a few examples of people that got it fixed. I've seen dozens more.

Go into NVidia GeForce Experience. Click on settings. You should then be on the General tab. Tick this green button right here to disable Shadowplay. Then see if your game crashes.

My game is using about 38% of the cpu

This is because you are on low settings and Fortnite isn't going to push your CPU usage much anyway. You're using an i7 OC'd at 4 GHz. Fortnite can be ran on a potato. If you want your CPU usage to go up, simply turn up some CPU intensive graphic settings. Why you'd want to do that though, I have no idea.

If the game still crashes with Shadowplay disabled, then that rules that fix out. Quick question, are you able to run other games without crashing? Load up a Steam game and play it to see if it crashes.
