i usually recommend a fresh install of the OS and a manual file move. this way there are less amount of things to go wrong.

 

make sure that your new HDD can be connected to the old motherboard.  like the motherboard might not have SATA if it is very old. (very)

Yeah I was going to format the old hard drive and start over again, who knows what's on that old thing? :P

 

And yeah, it's got SATA II

I'm going to upgrade my shitty old computer's hard drive soon, is there anything I should look out for?

Get a hybrid drive (cross between SSD and HDD). They don't cost too much more than a standard HDD.

Still learning how to play Dota 2 :)
