Ok so looking at getting a NVME drive for my Boot Drive. Basically I'm at the point of do I get a model with a Cache and spend a little more, or get a cheaper one with a higher capacity. I'm not doing anything crazy with my system. Mainly gaming and some photoshop work. I've done my research and know the upsides to having the Cache, just not sure if it's worth it for me.

Been looking at the following
- Samsung 970 EVOPlus 500GB

- WD SN750 500GB w/ Heatsink

- Corsair Force MP510 960 GB

I'd have to agree with @GoldenLag on this one, get a bigger capacity SATA drive. You won't really see any benefits from using NVME drives with your workloads...

you most likely wont benefit from NVME. just get yourself a standard Sata drive. the 500GB MX500 from Crucial is nice cached drive to pick up

tho qlc nvme drives like the 660p (intel) or p1 (crucial/micron) might be interesting...

I'm already on an SSD. Have  an older 500GB OCZ model, but I'd like to put that in my old rig which I'm giving to my dad. The NVME is a well why not kinda thing.

you wont gain anything from spending more on NVME.

the cash you would spend on a 500GB cached NVME drive you can spend on a 1TB cached Sata drive.

I'm not necessarily looking to gain anything though is the thing. Again I'm just getting it to get it. It's really just do I get a Cached one for the extra longevity, or a non-Cached one that's a little larger since I won't really be pushing it hard. Storage space isn't really the issue either it's just if I can get a larger one I will.

Get the cached one. Look at Adata XPG SX8200 Pro.

Also, for a 512GB NVME model, you can almost get a 256GB NVME + a 512GB SATA SSD. I'd recommend going that route.

It's odd how you want to ignore the non-speed benefit of an NVMe and yet are wanting to take into consideration the Cache, which really has no bearing on performance or longevity in any meaningful way.

Just get the one you want to get.

Everything I'm looking at is pretty similar speed wise, and while the speed bump will be nice, I'm not really going to be doing much to take proper advantage of it. It's really just does the cache justify the higher price that models with it seem to have.

I don't like to wait and I become desperate when it comes to opening things, things in general and not something in particular, you look like you belong to the dark side too LOL. For many people, there is no real gain when using an NVMe and it is even less the number of people who can really take advantage of the full potential of an NVMe (transferring large pieces of data faster) and I am not one of those! But knowing I can open things a few milliseconds faster lets me sleep at nights! ?

That so started out like some deep dark confession... I was edging toward the monitor in suspense.

Then NVMe :( Bah!

At what time this became "the confessions game" muahahah! An NVMe is totally worthwhile, but it points more to the creators of multimedia content that require a quick rendering or a system that moves a lot of data than to most of the people, its endurance is very high and also the ability to move data, but when it is about moving small files, both SATA SSDs and NVMe SSDs behave almost the same, small files such as videogames for example, video games are not considered a heavy workload for storage the devices.
