Hi guys.

Currently I have 2 x Corsair Vengeance Pro Blue DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Memory Kits fitted into my motherboard.

My mobo is an ASROCK Z97 Extreme 4.

Is it possible to add more RAM sticks to the already existing one, or does my mobo only support the 2 slots? How would I go ahead and upgrade this? Ideally to 16GB

Thanks!

I'm streaming every day, many AAA games, to entertain people and to get a hang of games that others are unable to play or want to see before they buy.

Its 2 x 4GB sticks so far - BUT - I did read somewhere not all motherboards support "all RAM stick slots" etc? So dual channel, multi channel etc.

its only dual channel for most board (normal PC), but you can get 4 stick in it and still have dual channle cause thats the limit of that board. except one of those X58/X79 and so on can get a triple channel and even quad channel which improves a lot

Hmm, I see. Would using 4 x 4 be the same performance as 2 x 8 GB? I do not want to say, fit 4 sticks and they arent recognised or used to their best potential. 2 x 8 means however I need to get rid of the old ones.

Can you tell me based on this what the speed could be? I believe it is 1866MHz DDR3 but just a confirmation would be good!

yes, DDR stands for double data rated. if you do times by 2 its 1866Mhz more or less

See the issue is that DDR3 is old school now, and (I believe) to go DDR4 I'd need to change Motherboards potentially, which I cannot be bothered with. 1866MHz sticks are discontinued and out of stock, so what I COULD do is get this below;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMY16GX3M2A1600C9B-Vengeance-1600Mhz-Performance/dp/B00D2LGRLK/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=corsair+vengeance+pro+ddr3&qid=1554634095&s=computers&sr=1-3

This is kind of a good deal, 2 x 8GB so 16, but at 1600MHz (which hardly matters)? Sad times.

Show me, yeah. I'm in the UK as an FYI.

I found one suitable one for £55, but Amazon has 2 brand new 8GB sticks for 70..

Well nvm the limit of that board Is not 16gb anyway

What does that mean? Can I not even run 16GB in it? ?

According to sites "The ASRock Z97 Extreme4 has four memory sockets. You can install up to 32 GiB with this motherboard if you use four 8 GiB modules."

Also, it is talking about using the same colour for sticks, as it's blue and black etc.

Nah doesn't matters a lot of people have a combination of value stick which have no heat sink just a stick with a heat sink just fine. But the speed will follow the slower 1 by default. Did you already used the xmp profile?

I am unsure, all I know is that is its in dual channel mode, so I have 1 4GB stick in Slot 1 which is Blue, then in Slot 3 which is Blue again.

Yes, and thats just it you have dual channel. or you can slot 2 slot 4 and still get dual channel. Its a dual channel board even if you get the most high end board for Z97 chipset.

Okay, so all I would do is (if I could find my Blue Corsair ram) is to put the 2 other sticks in, so it would be 4 x 4, and it would recognise it all so alotgether 16GB..

But I still could not locate an 1866MHz blue stick - which is the issue.

yeah if its lower (ram speed). and still dual channel even though its 4 sticks cause thats what the boards can only do.

just any other ram is fine it doenst matter, and get the same speed if you can.

Hmm okay, I just wanted to keep the same type as I am fussy like that... but if that is no option as same speed cannot be found, and I assume 1600 and 1866MHz would NOT go down together..

Any suggestions on what to purchase? I prefer Amazon or PC websites over eBay tbh
