Telus in East Vancouver

applebook

This is with nothing downloading/ uploading @ 12:35pm PST, so not exactly PEAK hours. I pay for 150mbps, and sadly this is close to the same experience that I've had for the past half year. Needless to say, I'm switching back to dreaded Shaw next week. As bad as Shaw was, at least they delivered the advertised speeds. In fact, I was generally as fast with Shaw's entry 25mbps line a few years ago as I am with Telus 150 ?

In fairness, my average DL is in the low 20s, so I get 1/6 or 1/7th what I'm paying for. BTW, this is not exactly abnormal for Telus, though my case is probably among the worst in Metro Vancouver.

Right now I am getting 820 Mbps down / 660 Mbps up on Telus, never saw any slowdowns even during peak hours.

Are you on fiber?

What do you use to test the speed? Can you try testing with fast.com? (after download test completes, click 'Show more info' for Upload test)

I am on fiber.

I've never cracked 35mbps download. For comparison, when I was with Shaw 75mbps last year, I consistently hit high 70s download.

15mbps upload at this time of night on a Friday. That's too funny.

This sucks.

I'd try a few things:

1) Looks like you have ipv6 enabled. I'd try disabling it and see if that helps. IPv6 routing overall still sucks compared to IPv4... Though it should not make such a big impact.

2) Plug in a PC directly into the ONT and retest (to rule out issues caused by a faulty router etc)

3) Then I'd pick another PC + different LAN cable and do the same (to rule out issues caused by faulty NIC as well as LAN cable)

If results are same, then I'd try talking to Telus, or... switch to Shaw.

Problem solved, switched to Shaw 300. This isn't too bad for 7:50pm on a week night with a 1080p WAN show streaming already:

To add insult to injury, Telus refused to let me cash out my rewards before I quit them:
