The main benefit in having this increase in speed is well, having more speed. Having a high download speed and faster upload may be much better for many people in most situations, although for a standard consumer, Gigabit isn't needed. If it fits in your budget and you really want 3.2 gig, then go for it. All you will need are a modem, router, and switch that are all able to support 3.2 gig.

I suppose I like a chairs a little too much.

Most people would be surprised how little they use when not downloading large files. I can show multiple 10 gig links to dorms of 2-300 people unable to reliably hit a gig

 

No it's not beneficial unless you really need to download often. Even then it has to be time critical
