Linux on a windows domain server

Hey all.. I am looking for the easiest way to get a (any) distro of linux to authenticate and join a windows server domain.  I havent found any recent information on this.  I have an older desktop that is being used as a file server which I find that windows 10 is a little too resource heavy on the hardware.  While the box runs fine Id like a bit more stability out of it while not having to burn money on a windows license, hence the idea going to linux.

Have you tried following the many guides out there?

Yeah thats what I mean.. my brain is being lazy being friday afternoon where I am.  There are many but I was looking for a simple solution rather than stand on one foot, rub my tummy, chant Linus is the man, while juggling 3 keyboards.
