Hi,

Today I’m running with a GTX 1060 Strix 6gb and i5 6600k, I’m planning to build a new rig and I’m sure of what to get except the CPU.

First of all, I’m choosing between i5 8600k, i5 9600k, i7 8700k and i7 9700k. I know the price range between i5 and i7 is quite high but if the performance between them are quite high it wont be a problem to spend a extra penny for the i7.

FYI, I’m going to buy the RTX 2070 for my

new rig.

Second of all, what is the true difference between the 8th and 9th generation, I’ve watched ”Linus tech tips - What CPU to get late 2018 December”. He mentioned the i5 8600k is great as a high end value gaming rig but also the i7 9700k, why didn’t he pick the 9th generation of i5 CPU i5 (9600k) and the 8th generation of the i7 CPU?

I’m usually playing mmo’s like Black Desert Online that is quite CPU demanding as far as I’ve seen. I’m also playing For Honor, but I’d like to ensure myself to get a CPU that will be able to handle future games in decently high settings without any problems. I’d also like to try out and stream the games I play.

With that being said, what CPU has the most value and what generation difference is it between the generations and which one of the gens are the recommended ones?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, there's no significant performance increase from 8th to 9th gen.

If you are planning to overclock, get the 8600k/9600k (whatever happens to be cheaper).

If you don't and just want a faster cpu, get the i7 non k. Shouldn't bottleneck the 2070 either way.

It’s really confusing since people say the older 8th gen is better than the 9th even if benchmarks show that the 9th is slightly better?

Same as Linus as I said, he mentioned the 8th gen but not the 9th?

Also, will the i5 8th/9th generation handle streaming mmo’s aswell? Or will have in that case go for the i7.

I think what people means by 8th gen is better than the 9th gen, is in term of value not performance, the price vs performance. The 9th gen is overpriced for its performance gain from the 8th gen. Intel 9th gen price vs performance is bad.

Oh, but that’s even more confusing. Here where i live, in Sweden, the 9th gen is about 10-20 Euros cheaper than the older 8th gen? That’s why it’s so wierd.

That’s the one I need, lol

Yes, Im dead set on Intel. Actually leaning more towards the i5, not sure yet.

Although, still don’t know why the new generation is cheaper than 8th, benchmarks show its better aswell, but people still prefer the 8600k?
