I've currently got 2x4gb corsair vengeance ddr3 1600mhz installed in my system and would like to upgrade it to 16gb. I know that if I install sticks that are faster they will automatically be underclocked to the slowest speed ram, but I'm wondering how important it is to match the timings/ latency/ voltage to my existing ram for system stability?

I mean, i had a load of ram kits in my life on this rig

It is VERY important that you get the timings right, if you don't it will bluecreen like crazy on you, the voltages are kinda the same across the board i wouldn't worry that much about them but i'd just recommend buying a 16gb kit of RAM of the bat. It isn't worth it to mix and match RAM sticks it's just too much of a headache

do you think there's still cause for concern if I can get the exact same 2x4gb kit? Or corsair also had a low profile version of the same kit that I was looking at for clearance reasons with my sink. Have you tried matching regular with low profile kits of the same model? It would be ideal for me if I could get the low profile version and avoid having to replace my heatsink as well.
