M.2 Compatibility

I have an ASUS Z170 PRO motherboard with an NVMe M.2 slot and I would like to install a SAMSUNG 970 PRO M.2 2280 512GB PCIe Gen3. X4, NVMe. When I used the "compatibility checker' on Amazon it was not sure. I then reached out to both ASUS and Samsung direct and both were pretty non-committal in their answer, each stating "it should" work and then pointing me to the other company. 

 

Have any of you used this combo. successfully?
