We all have seen those "ultimate thunderbolt 3 setup" videos.

They are cool and everything, but for the common person like us they have two major problems.

They are expensive and very hard to replicate with alternative hardware.

So I was wondering if you have monitor ideas for a similar setup, but with two monitors, here's my struggle:

  • If possible I would like to avoid using a laptop as one of the monitors, just because the aspect ratio and size of a monitor usually does not match the one of a tiny 13'' laptop like the Macbook Pro or Dell XPS.
  • If I think about HDMI Monitors, the Docks either have one HDMI or they do not offer additional peripherals [1][2].
  • If I think on thunderbolt 3 monitors it breaks the bank, without mentioning that there are not that many Docks with multiple thunderbolt ports.
  • This is intended to work, so an external GPU is not an option.
  • Linus and other website recommend the Caldigit Dock, but it only comes with one Display Port.

Do you have better suggestions to have two identical "office size" monitors? (at work we use  ASUS VE247H 23.6" monitors).

Someone mentioned using those super wide monitors, but I'm not sure if I'll like.

Thanks!

You might be able to find a display that supports daisy chaining, so one monitor acts as a pass through, but with only one cable.

I only know of one off the top of my head, and that's the LG one that they made with apple.

Have a look around if thats what you're looking for.
