Another Ram Question.

So basically I have crafted together enough parts (some I bought) in order to build my finance a PC. She wants to play overwatch etc. My question is, the ram. I have 32 gigs of ram, I do very video minor editing (trimming clips) an some gaming, of course. If I donate 16 of my gigs to her pc will I notice a difference on my own? I have never downgraded ram before and I hear these posts saying '16g is all you need'.

Is it two sticks of 16GBs of RAM or is it four sticks of 8GBs? Depending on what you have, you might not be able to run in dual channel which might make some difference but not too much.

You should be fine if you donate 16GB of that. Just to confirm, what motherboard do you have?

If it turns out to be a bad choice then just buy her new RAM and take your old sticks back.

ASRock - X99 Extreme4 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard

Yeah this is true, I haven't bought ram in a while has it always been this expensive? $80-100 for a decent 16g kit.

Just read the manual on which slots are paired so that you are running in dual channel.

Nowadays that's a good price for a 16GB kit. It was a lot worse a few months ago.

Is it better to run Dual channel with 2 8g and not a 16g on single Channel?

 

Sorry I am not well educated on performance differences with Ram and channels.

Yes, it's always better to run what your motherboard is rated as, in your case quad channel, but you can run in dual channel as well.
