Hi guys, I will be upgrading my system soon and have an issue to resolve. currently am running an old HD7770 from XFX and I will upgrade to either a R9 270x or 280x and here is my question. Im not particulary bothered about selling my current 7770 to get the extra few pounds (yes im in the UK) to put towards the new card, while i am wondering if it would be any benefit to have them both in the system? would they 'argue' with eachother or would it be fine?

thanks in advance :)

They would work independently. There shouldn't be conflicts but it wouldn't help unless you're driving multiple displays from both graphics cards.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Yes, if you plan on having more displays then  you may use it. Otherwise don't bother with such things. Sell it and get the 280x.

IF you want to run them as one card, then they need to be identical cards and linked in Crossfire. Having two different cards won't really help you, so I don't see a reason to do so.

Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses.

They're not gonna work together. They won't "argue", but they won't "talk" to each other at all. So give the 7770 to someone else or sell it on craigslist

You could use the 7770 to drive an extra display while you game on the first, Don't know whether it will increase performance though

Like others have said the only real benefit would be if you're running extra monitors, otherwise there would be no point in having it in your PC with the new GPU.

thanks for the answers guys! i didnt think they would crossfire being two different models of cards. Im only going to run a single display so I shall see what i can get for the 7770 then.

Thanks again!
