I normally do windows install with a usb drive. which allows me to select what drive i want to install on. but all my usb drives are at my other place atm. when using the upgrade now path. if i select to keep nothing its only wipes the drive that the OS is currently on correct?

Correct. The boot drive is essentially wiped. It shouldn't touch other drives unless programs are forcefully installed there.
