My friend is going to buy the gtx 880 when that comes out and he currently has a gtx 680. He said that he will sell me his 680 for a really low price if I give him my 660 ti in return, and I currently have a 500 watt psu. I know that the power requirements that are recommended for gpus are usually high just for head room, but do you think that I will be safe with 500 watts even though 550 is recommended, or will I have to do an upgrade? I would like to avoid an upgrade if possible, but I do have some time until the 880 is released, and I would like to have a modular power supply rather than my current mess of cables.

500 watts should be fine.

Thanks, that's what I thought, I just wanted to be sure. The 680 itself only uses up to 195 at stock settings anyway, and I have a hard time believing that everything else in my computer uses 300.
