so i have this pc i need to fix for work and its weird.. initially it boots fine until it says something about windows recovery on the blue screen (not bsod but i think its called windows recovery environment). this is windows 10 btw

things i tried:

-cmd with windows 10 repair tool on installation disk

  • sfc /scannow -no problems
  • chkdsk ? /f /r -no problems
  • -bootrec /fixmdr -no problems
  • -bootrec /rebuildbcd -no windows installation found
  • -bootrec /fixboot -access denied

-checked for bad sectors using hdat2 - no bad sectors found

-use restore point - gives an error warning and cannot be restored

-restore to a previous build (not exactly what it says cuz i forgot what exactly it was) - also shows an error

it would boot, show the windows loading screen and its just a blank black screen afterwards without anything happening. Something to note too is it would sometimes shutdown on it own and refuse to turn on for a few minutes. Specs are i5 4460, asus b85m-g, 500gb seagate barracuda hdd, 8gb ram (single stick), generic 700w psu(cant really test with anything better since everything here in the office is running with generic psus), gt710(again can't really test with anything better since office doesnt carry a lot of graphics cards). any insight would be helpful and much appreciated

If there is nothing on the drive, reinstall windows. If there is, I would clone the drive, then reinstall windows. This is just a suggested repair, probably not the best fix. Also randomly powering off is a sign of overheating, might want to check your cpu temperature.

there are files on the hard drive and cloning the drive is not also an option cuz there are no hdds on hand at the moment. would resetting the pc be a good fix while not losing all the files inside it?(the drive is partioned c:250gb approx and d:250gb approx). I left the pc on the bios screen for almost an hour and its idle at 35c. Im really limited to what I can do regarding hardware cuz of the office environment I work at

What do you mean by "resetting"?

windows has an option to reset the pc to like a fresh install without affecting the user's files. I have never used it so I don't know if this can be an option. And I'm not sure if resetting would play well with a partitioned drive
