Amazon Alexa App issue

Hey everyone, I've just got a fire tv, the original version second hand but I'm struggling to get it to link to alexa. I set my amazon to the US to prevent any functionality issues with country locations there and restarted the app but even though the Fire TV will show in my devices, when i go to tv and video it doesn't show up. In fact that settings menu on the app only appears for like 10 seconds and then goes blank. I've also tried on the alexa website but it still doesn't show up there.

 

Any advice?
