Ok so I will be getting a new laptop for work soon (Lenovo Legion Y530, i5-8300H, GTX-1050).

I like to always keep a split between work and game environments, so I have never Gamed on a work laptop before.

But since I will be able to get better CSGO fps on this laptop than on my old desktop I built in 2011, I would like to play on the laptop.

My idea is to buy a usb 3.1 for my extra 2.5 SSD I have laying around.

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to boot the laptop from the external SSD when gaming?
Will usb 3.1 be fast enough to provide a good gaming experience?

You don't need to boot from the external SSD, just keep the games installed on the SSD and access them from the main OS.

Good point, I guess I will install steam and all its games on the external SSD.
That is of course if usb 3.1 is fast enough...

Remember to install steam on the external drive itself. Installing steam on the pc is a bad idea. If you do you'll have to search for the games every time steam is closed. ;)

I don't wanna be that guy, but I'm gonna be that guy.

Don't game on your work hardware. If your IT-department is worth it's salt, they'll notice what you're doing and it might get you into some serious trouble.

Building a rig that can run CS:GO shouldn't be too hard (or expencive) really, especially if you can salvage some parts from your old PC

75% of what I say is sarcastic

So is the rest probably
