Laggy AE

I am editing in AE and it's getting to the point were the timeline is too laggy. I have to keep it in 1/4th the res and constantly keep playing back to prerender to the ram cache. I think it might be my CPU as it's a 6800K at 4Ghz as I am editing from a 960 EVO and 850 EVO. My GPU is a 1080 and I have 64Gbs of RAM. The footage I am editing is 4K and the effects are pretty heavy. I have already tuned AE for the optimal settings to utilize my hardware but it's still laggy

The more effects you add the laggier it gets. More ram and cpu power won't fix it.

When i use AE for digital remastering there's basically no be all end all solution to get it running perfectly. Different effects will tax the hardware or SOFTWARE to the point where the machine is as fast as can be and the program itself just can't handle what you are trying to do.

Just keep turning that preview resolution down and learn to deal really.

Damn that sucks. Motion 5 is no where near as laggy with similar effects. Maybe black magic can releases something similar that's fully GPU supported

the main issue with after effects is that everyone is using different hardware , everyone is using different effects and plugins , everyone is using various driver and os versions , everyone is exporting using different settings and codecs

you basically have to configure your own machine to be as fast as it can given your own situation. In my own situation , I have to only cpu render everything and specifically have to use older version of premiere and after effects to use legacy plugins. So most online fixes to speed up these apps don't really include my situation at all.
