Would an I5 9600k and a 2060 be a good combo?

Yea seems like a really good match actually. But there are a couple of negative reviews on the i5-9600k so I would look into that.

It would do more than 144. My i3-8100 and 1060 6gb can do 144 easy.

1080p/144 (with some reductions) or 1440p/75, imo

That guy can be funny sometimes but he's biased AF. Also, does some weird stuff sometimes that makes no sense.

Do you agree with his claims? I can see if you had the previous gen and wanting to upgrade.

He's complaining that two different chips got different OC results. That's kind of dumb, because that's....just the way it is.

He's complaining about paying more for "solder", but everyone knew the solder was still going to be worse than a self-delid/LM job.

He's comparing cinebench scores as if they are indicative of actual performance...we know this isn't the case.

He pulled Hardware Unboxed's video...and cherry picked Ashes of the Freakin' Benchmark, which is the best-case scenario for AMD saying "it's only 10%" as its the most multi-threaded optimized game on their list, ignoring the scenarios where the intel is near 25%+ faster.

He goes on to promote the hyperbole of "upgrade path" for Ryzen (i.e. ultimately spending more on upgrades every 6 months to get almost as good as intel performance)

I could go on

So is it worth it? Or should I just go with the 8th gen

Personally?

If you are aiming for any resolution 75hz or less, Ryzen is a better deal because you get more threads for less money, and at those resolutions and framerates you are certainly GPU limited and the weaker single-core performance won't matter.

If you are aiming for 144hz at any resolution, then yes, it might be worth it, but personally i'd avoid any of the 6/6 in 2019 as it is only downhill from here. Already 4/4 isn't enough for many games and 4/8's barely alright, with 6/6 doing fine too. For now, anyway.

I'd either increase budget and buy the 8700k/9700k, and a 2080, and game at high refresh

OR

Just get a Ryzen 7 2700 and upgrade to a 1440p/75hz monitor on that 2060. You'll manage 75fps easily and you won't miss those frames the CPU coudln't render because your GPu couldn't render them anyway.

The 9600k isn't without its use cases, though. In some games (especially online multiplayer games) that are network thread bound (WoW, FFXIV, MOBAs), it will perform nearly as good as a 9900k.

Interesting, I will definitely look at the 2700, thanks so much!
