So this was my first time to do my own custom water loop. the only thing that didn't work when I started it up was the gpu. So, I thought, maybe the motherboard just didn't like the PCIe port I put it in. I put it in another one, and I still had the same problem, triple checking that it wasn't a seating issue. I went into the bios, and both times, the motherboard wasn't recognizing that anything existed in the slot. Is it possible that when I was cracking open the shell, that I could have static shocked the gpu dead? I was pretty careful in placing the thermal pads and cleaning the gpu off... is there anything else I should try before giving up entirely on it?
