Confusion between rams

Hey, Im from india and Im trying to fix my classmates PC. The objective is to add 2 gb ram to it making it 4 gb in total. I thought it was pretty easy job but I dont have a hand on the pc and we are communicating through phone.

The problem is that he has a Athlon II x2 270 Processor 

His motherboard supports both DDR2 or DDR3 ram types. So I asked him what ram he has and he says its 2RX8 and PC3 Ram. 

 

Should I suggest him a DDR3 ram from amazon or DDR2? aNd also what is this 2rx8 and pc3 ram?

PC3 is ddr3, so you HAVE to get ddr3 memory. Tell him to get DDR3 mem, and get the same frequency and possible same brand. Also make sure he has enough slots.

Oh, So we should search for "PC3" Or DDR3? Yes he has 3 more slots. Should we get single 2 gb stick or 2x 1 gb stick? I heard dual channeling memory is good

Also He has HP ram and it is really hard to find here. Its okay to go with samsung or anything else right?

It's okay to go with other RAM brands as long as they're the same frequency, CL and voltage.
