Hey guys!

I am really excited, I've decided to treat myself with a new system!

Would like some help with choosing the right parts of the job.

I am 100% gaming on this system, long time fan of 144hz and mostly FPSing.

I would also like to know what are your thoughts about the graphic card - is going for RTX even worth it? or 1080TI is the way to go?

1. Budget & Location

1800$ - flexible.

Amazon - USA.

2. Aim

Gaming. Competitive, FPS. Examples - PUBG, Apex Legends, Overwatch, COD, Battlefield.

3. Monitors

BenQ XL2420TE 144hz 1080p

Dell, 60 hz 1080p

I am currently aiming for 144fps on 1080p with an option to upgrade my monitor (1440p probably), maybe in two years.

4. Peripherals

Nothing.

5. Why are you upgrading?

My computer is 4 years old and games aren't running as smooth. Hard playing on lower than 144 fps once you got used to it :)

Your help is highly appreciated!

^^ more budget friendly (assuming you have a psu and case you are willing to keep - this applies to all builds)

Spoiler

^^ Balls to the wall gaming, only lacking a 2080ti because that was out of budget.

^^ Ryzen build. more budget friendly than the other balls to the wall build. this offers upgradability in the upcoming years too.

Spoiler

^^ Ryzen build, cuts down on CPU and GPU, but for the 1080p gaming you have now, it will kick ass.

^^ Just an Intel version of the ryzen build above.

And finally, a 400 dollar ultrawide 1440p monitor. Get it if you get any of the builds with a 2080 if you think its worth shelling out the extra 400 on top of the build itself. It will be an upgrade you will not want to go back from :)

If you can reuse a lot of your current build (psu, storage, case, cooler etc) then you could get a new monitor in with the $1800.

You would need to say what case, psu and cooler you have though. The 2133 ram you have is a bit on the slow side, but you should be able to overclock it. If you want the extra cores then the 9700K is $50 or so more. You lose HT though.

Monitor is Freesync, but supports Nvidia gpu's with the correct driver.

small question... why not the extreme4 or go up to the aorus elite?

Pro > Elite. They share the same VRM. Think the only difference is the Pro has an extra x16 slot and the Elite has an extra x1 slot. The Pro is actually the slightly higher model on Gigabyte's naming scheme.

https://wccftech.com/gigabyte-aorus-z390-motherboard-roundup/

Haven't really looked at ASRock but I seem to remember the Extreme 4 not being as good as the Z370 version. Might be wrong on that though.

I'm not sure if it's a 12+1 or a 10+3, but afaik it's a solid board, and it seems to be on sale for 140 dollars

Pretty much any Z390 board would handle the 8700K without issues. If he doesn't plan on going with the 9900K then the ASRock would do ok. He has the budget though for the better Gigabyte boards if he wants that option.

Pretty much any Z390 board would handle the 8700K without issues. If he doesn't plan on going with the 9900K then the ASRock would do ok. He has the budget though for the better Gigabyte boards if he wants that option.

afaik the lower (it's what you call lower) tier gigabyte aorus boards should be around the same as a extreme4, so it can handle a 9900k

even a gigabyte z390 ud can

@LukeSavenije @lee32uk @NunoLava1998 Thank you for all the comments!

@TH3R34P3R Thanks for providing so many options and taking everything into consideration.

Totally forgot to mention - I am going to pass my old computer to a friend, so I need everything but the SSD and HDD.

Few question I have -

1. All of you suggested EVGA - GeForce RTX 2080 8 GB Black Video Card. What's so special about it? is it budget-friendly? or just a better version than others?

2. Considering the fact I will at some point upgrade to 1440p - will i7 CPU help with performance? or CPU and resolution has nothing to do with each other?

It's the cheapest RTX 2080.

i7 will help, but at 1440p you're going to be better off in 1440p with a better GPU

Ryzen 7 3700X / 16GB RAM / Optane SSD / GTX 1650 / Solus Linux
