Hello,

Thanks in advance but I do need a little help.

I live in Brazil where pc parts are usually very expensive so I`ve bought what I could afford.

Here are my specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 2700x

MSI X470 Gaming M7 AC

G.skill TridentZ DDR4 3600 (4x8) (for Ryzen)

Geforce GTX1070Ti asus strix

Corsair RM850x

Kingston 256Gb ssd nvme m.2

Samsung 860 evo ssd sata m.2

Samsung 860 evo ssd sata

Well, let`s talk about my problem now.

I`ve bought at first 2x8 Gb DDR4 and set on motherboard config a xmp profile 2 (to work at 3600mhz), after a couple of months, I`ve bought 2x8Gb DDR4, same model and brand as before, installed it and set both at xmp 2 at 3600Mhz. Here`s the problem. It didn`t work, I do get a BSOD everytime I try to boot or right after loggin in on windows 10 (64).

The only way for everything to work is to set the memory at xmp1 at 3333Mhz.

I`ve asked for help on MSI support, the only response was "never buy memory, even from the same manufacturer and model, at different times"... so, no more MSI products for me (no jk here).

Now, g.skill didn`t handled a response for me yet.

Is there something wrong with my hardware? I`ve tested the memory in different slots, on separated (2x8) and no problems at all, the only problem is when I use all at the same time at 3600Mhz.

is this a AMD limitation? MSI lame motherboard? Memory problem? Windows?

Where should I start?

High memory speeds are generally only possible with two sticks (AMD and Intel suffer from this, its tied to how memory buses work).

The best boards for memory overclocking have only one slot per channel because of this.

You need to reduce the memory clock with four modules.

So if it`s stable at 3333Mhz I should keep like this?

I thought It was a windows/hardware problem, not limitation. But I`m ok with that. Thank you!

Correct.

Its a fairly universal problem and can even happen with only two sticks of memory if they are a dual rank design (twice the chips per module).

Have you tried adjusting the memory voltage or timings to gain stability? You may need a little more voltage or a little higher timings to sustain those speeds with stability.

Not really, I'm just setting the xmp profile on the bios and nothing else. I'm not too familiar with adjusting settings in bios. Maybe I'm just too afraid to kill something.

There's plenty of good guides around the internet and on youtube, generally memory may run faster with a small bump in voltage, similar to overclocking a CPU. There's a relationship between memory timings and memory performance though, if you relax the timings too much you may not see any benefit from a higher memory speed or a negative benefit in some applications. It's all a balancing act, I tend to run a tighter timing vs the highest speed because I notice more improvement in overall performance from that. That may or may not be the case in your situation, don't be afraid to learn more about the topic.
