I have just noticed a potential solution in an article on CNET.

Backblaze "unlimited" only works on Windows and Mac and only on internal or USB drives. In other words, totally useless for what Linus was looking to do. Backblaze has another service, B2, which would support their storage servers, but costs $5/TB/Month, or $5000/Month if they wanted to backup a full Petabyte project. They could just build another petabyte project and install it in a datacenter offsite and it would be cheaper after less than a year if I remember the cost of it right.
