Skype randomly opening

Premilix

Today I turned on my computer and did some work. About an hour later, Skype opened by itself. I turned it off, but around 20 minutes later, it turned on again. Could someone help me?  By the way I have never used Skype.

Is the problem that Skype is actively running in a window or is it running the background?

More actively running. The problem is that it opens randomly and then I have force close it in task manager.

Well that would make me question whether there is something on your PC that is malicious.  I would uninstall Skype and scan your PC.

Open Skype, settings and disable automatic updates

Then:

Task manager -> startup -> Skype -> disable

Thank you. Hopefully that will fix it.

Do you know where to uninstall Skype? I tried the Microsoft Store and the Control Panel, but I couldn't find them.

You say you have to force close it through task manager. Can you post a screenshot of this process in task manager before you close it?

You went into Control Panel > Programs and Features?

I don't have Skype on my PC so I can't give better direction.  Have you tried finding it in the Start Menu and then right clicking it and selecting uninstall?

Or if you don't feel like reading much. Open up Powershell as administrator, and run this command.

Get-AppxPackage *skypeapp* | Remove-AppxPackage

You are welcome, just be aware that Windows likes to sneak apps in every time you get a major update... so it may return in the future. You'll just have to remove it again.
