This November I got a gaming PC. Previously I had only used PS2 (outdated but I grew up with it), the Xbox 360, Xbox 1. For the past 2 years I had been saving up for a computer as well to play more games. I normally was big into specs of phones, computers, etc. mostly because I found interesting, but for myself price was definitely important. As an early Christmas present, however, my parents said they would just buy me one simply because they really had no other ideas. The price was supposed to be under 800$ or else I'd have to pay half. Well at Best Buy an Omen Obelisk was on sale for $899 and seemed to have decent specs on it. Trying to save money I kind of just rushed to pick it because it was also one of the last ones in stock. I purchased my own peripherals, and went on with my life. Recently, though, a lot of people have been kind of frowning on what I have. Obviously, being a pre-built, the PC-Masterrace type people laugh at it. That was expected, but others criticize the specs. So to wrap this up....are my specs good? Any upgrades anyone would recommend? Or is it "good enough" for gaming?

Specs: Omen Obelisk 875-0014

8th Gen Intel Core i7-8700

HyperX 16GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1x16)

1 TB HDD

256 GB PCle NvMe M.2 SSD

2x2 Wifi

Multiple USB drives obviously not even gonna explain

NIVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 W/ 3GB GDDR5

Standard Sound

500W Powere Supply

Another note is that similar to one of Linus' Videos, There is one CPU fan and one sending air out the back. Unlike the higher end model he had in the secret shopper videos, there is no visible intake.

The motherboard is generic, and I have no idea what it would support either. It does have an open spot for Liquid Cooling, as well as an extra HDD. There is another ram slot, but 16 is stilllll pretty good.

So...thoughts?

If it's good enough for you then you don't need to upgrade. You don't need to upgrade just to feel "redeemed" or whatever by a community, and you shouldn't ever do anything in life just to please a person or a group of people unless it is yourself. Going back to the build; could you build something better for the price? Yes, but you weren't exactly in a great position to do so.

This probably trade blows with my build that was $500 - GPUs trade blows but I'd say my 580 is slightly better, but your CPU is much better (typical of prebuilts; stronger CPUs than GPUs), but it isn't far off if not beating mine in most games. However this also has 8GB more RAM, wifi, NVME drive, and a 1TB HDD, maybe like a 150-200$ value.

Basically, if it is fine for you, then don't worry about it.

Current Desktop Build | 2200G | RX 580 4GB | 8GB RAM | CTRL | Logitech G Pro Wireless

Laptop | 2018 MBA 256/16GB | MX Master
