I don't know anything about batteries, displays, keyboards, trackpads, etc, so does anyone know what components and how you would assemble them like this? Because it seems this project is abandoned.

It doesn't look very practical in my eyes but it would essentially be off the shelf components for a desktop like they mentioned just crammed into a custom case. The only things different would be integrating a integrating a USB based trackpad, keyboard etc from a laptop to interface with the desktop motherbaord.

The custom case would be something that is best made in CAD and sent out to a shop to fabricate in what looks like a painted acrylic. Linking the components shouldn't be too bad as most are standardized and you would just need to figure out the connections and potentially solder the correct pads to make connectors that could interface with a motherboard. 

 

I would say if you are interested in ultra small form factors to look into premade solutions like the S4, just be aware building and parting out a system in ultra SFF cases are not exactly straight forward.
